The city appears to have achieved high economic growth by attracting foreign capital. Vietnam has beautiful landmarks, landscape, history, & culture. And, people are very nice and friendly.
Nevertheless, it still faces future challenges. These include the gap between rich and poor, infrastructure development, and bureaucratic responses.
Also, There are serious air pollution issues in large cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. These are caused by motorcycle exhaust, construction sites, and factories.
Additionally, water pollution and improper waste handling and landfill disposal are pressing issues. It was shocking to see how messy everywhere was.
It is also a setback for sustainability, which seems to be a global issue. Further more, the hot and humid climate contributes to the risk. Hygiene management at food stalls and restaurants can be inadequate. This creates an environment with a high risk of food poisoning. There were many huge mouses around trash & garbage tanks everywhere especially around 4 to 5 a.m. although some people are sweeping with broom from very early morning like 5 a.m. I guess nothing change unless every people includes travelers do something fundamentally.
The behavior like a throwing trash on the street could be change by living people’s effort. I’m sure there is a reason why not to throw trash on the street. Although, It would be great to start by placing garbage cans everywhere outside. This would encourage people to throw trash into the garbage box. Add a nudge effect like bin that says “Thanks for keeping Hanoi clean!!!” when people throw trash. I even think the sheet or marked area will work for people to throw their garbage into particular area. Starting small with capable changing one’s behavior makes greater changes & advantage to market.
